Raw Metal

Description

Raw metal is an interactive musical performance.

The piece was created for the Victoria and Albert Museum’s Friday Late series and was premiered on November 28th 2008. The night was metal themed to celebrate the opening of the newly refurbished Bollinger jewellery gallery. On the 19th of May 2009 the piece will be performed at the Takeaway Festival of DIY media at the Science Museum, London.

Every sound utilised by Raw Metal has been sourced entirely from the recording of metal objects. Audiences are invited to both accompany as well as actively contribute to Raw Metal’s pre-composed material, by selecting and striking metal objects before a microphone.  Resultant sounds will be manipulated, struck and contorted into new aural shapes as the the inner sonicallities of metal sound, both percussive and resonant, are explored.
